Jessie Myrtle Washington

Jessie M. Howell Washington-There will be a dual service at the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church today, November 9, 2016, at 12 noon, for sisters Mary J. Howell Johnson and Jessie Myrtle Howell Washington. Jessie M. Howell Washington, 102, passed away Friday, November 4, 2016, at Austinwoods Nursing Home.

Mrs. Washington was born on July 27, 1914, in Kosciusko, Miss., a daughter of Arnold and Catherine Holman Howell. She came to Campbell in 1926. She attended Campbell Memorial High School. Her husband of 72 years, Orville Washington, whom she married in 1939, passed away on February 26, 2012. She enjoyed designing and showcasing hats at the McGuffey Center alongside her sisters. She was and avid scrabble player and enjoyed playing crouquet and going to garage sales. 

She leaves to cherrish her memory; a son, Larry Washington of Youngstown; niece and caregiver Mattie Pearl Bell; and cousin Mercedes King; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Earl, Homer, Henry, and George; and sisters, Mary J. Howell Johnson, Ann Simms, Vernice Howell and Amanda Bohannon. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all donations be made to Austinwoods Nursing Home in the name of Jessie M. Washington. Friends may call from 11 am to 12 noon, today at the church.
