September 30, 1933 — April 30, 2018

John W. Daniel-The life of John W. Daniel, native of Pittsburgh, PA., will be celebrated on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Third Baptist Church, 1177 Park Hill Drive, Youngstown, Oh. Calling hours will be at 10 am with the service to follow at 11 am. Family and out-of-town guests are invited to remain after the service for the repast.

Brother Daniel, as he was affectionately known, was a retired steelworker and a professional musician by trade. Over the course of his 84 years on the Earth, he played at numerous churches in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Oh., Richmond, VA., and Warren, Oh. His longest residency was at Third Baptist Church, where he was the organist for 47 years. He was proficient at the pipe organ, electric organ, piano, and upright bass. He served in the US Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana where he was the Chaplain's Assistant and organist from 1956-58. John was proudest of his childhood home church, Mt. Ararat in Pittsburgh, PA., the Pittsburgh Steelers and his beloved flowers and rose bushes, that he planted and lovingly cared for at every home he lived. He leaves behind to always remember him his wife of 46 years, Winifred Y., his daughter, Jacquelyn "Jacci" (Harry L.) Johnson and 2 grandchildren, Gabrielle G. and Harry L., a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends will also cherish his memory. He spend countless Saturdays with his "Jack-Jack" and grandkids eating at the Waffle House and running errands all over town-ending with a hot cup of coffee and an ice cream cone!

He lived his last days at Ohio Living Park Vista where he was cared for  by a truly warm and dedicated group of nurses, STNA's and staff members. John loved traditional gospel music, , the rituals and traditions of the Baptist Church and fellow-shipping with his Sunday school group. He  was proceeded in death by his great-Aunt Mary Daniel, who reared him, his mother;  Marie Barnes, a sister Mary Louise Houge and a brother Todd Beecher Davis. Toward the end of his life, he was attended to by some very special people; Rev. Gwen Johnson, and Rev. Chufunda of Reed's Chapel AME Church, Mrs. Lovie Mickel and Mary Hodge of Third Baptist Church. There are too many more to name, but please know how appreciative he was of each and every one of you. Family and friends may call at his daughter's home in the days prior to the service. F. D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home will be entrusted with the care of the deceased.
