Melvin D Johnson Sr.

August 13, 1948 — January 2, 2024


Mr. Melvin D. Johnson of Youngstown, departed this life on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Johnson Sr. was born to Bessie Lou Dora and William Walter Johnson on August 13, 1948, in Struthers, OH. 

He attended Highland Ave. School before moving to Youngstown.   He also attended Shiloh Baptist Church, where he accepted Jesus, during his youth.  He then attended Hayes Jr. High and The Rayen School, where he enlisted in the U.S. Navy prior to graduation.  After his release from the Navy, he married Beatrice Hendrix and had two sons, Robert & Melvin Jr. 

Melvin worked as a Driver's Ed Instructor, Truck Driver for Kaleel Bros. & Peter J Schmidt Produce Co's respectively.  He studied Industrial Electrical Wiring at New Castle School of Trades, to then become a Cable Installer with Star Cable.  He took courses at Y.S.U. and possessed many "self-taught" skills and abilities.   He also worked at Easter Seals & Mercy Health.  Melvin enjoyed "oldies" music and singing.  He also liked playing Bingo, Card games and Casino Slots.

He was preceded in death by, mother Bessie, and father William Sr. and his his siblings, Julia William  "Butch" Jr. and Shirley.

He leaves to cherish his memories, ex-wife, Beatrice; his son, Robert and Melvin Jr. ; his brother , Wayne; his sisters, Cathy and Trina; his 7 grandchildren Robert Jr., Chelsea, Celena, Katryna, Melvin III, Jaloni and Jalena; and his companion, Faye; a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren , extended family friends and loved ones.   

You will be greatly missed, always loved and remembered.

Cremation has taken places and there will be no service or callings publicly.
